And on that bombshell.......I think it should be retired with the rest of the hosts (if it hasn't been taken out of circulation as a prop already). It's rare for a toyota to possess such dignity. Let it get out while there's an opening.

Toyota UK should buy it and put it on permanent display in one of their showrooms.

"It's rare for a toyota to possess such dignity" back in the 80's when those were made, it was rare for Toyota NOT to have that dignity.

I think just as a final farewell, jeremy should drive it around the top gear track one last time. If it dies on the track, then that's where its final resting place should be.

Eh, somewhat. Most were still just driven by people looking for a cheap car, not people seeking motoring perfection. But the hilux is a standout among a good lineup and has been made even more prolific because of TG. Yet there they go, just chugging along to this day. No excessive fanboyism like the AE86 or Celica nor is it driven mostly by people who don't think about what it is like the Cressida or those old camry and tercel 4WDs. Just some honest goodness and the ability to withstand a demolished apartment complex.

That's why they have so much dignity. It is exactly what it claims to be - a tough, cheap little truck. Honest cars are pretty rare these days.

Let's take a moment to look back at the 80's Toyota.
The Celicas were still RWD asKiichiro Toyoda and God himself intended. The Supra sprang forth from them before the model was neutered and sent to FWD obscurity (All Trac being the only exception)
The Hilux Ridiculously dependable and somehow cool even in base model.
The Carolla (Ae86 to you fanboys)
Hell, even the more boring models were just boring because they rarely broke down even when you were actively trying to kill it off. no, there was a lot of good things going ton in the 80's for Toyota. Unfortunately that sterling reputation seems to have lead them on a very, very beige path that they remain on today. Hopefully we'll see the fun come back one of these days.

They can claim to be the only supercar that is specifically designed to dodge broken down vehicles.

Like I said, the truck has it, and a few others do. More dignity in that lineup than the domestics at the time, but not everything was perfect in toyota land.
